Eindhovense StudentenCorps Volleybal Vereniging
On the 23rd of September 1957, the very First colleges were given at the Eindhoven University of Technology. In the same week a couple of guys named Frans Blom, Jan Delahaye, Henny Schussel and Bob Smit decided to establish a student volleyball association. The association was given the name “Eindhoven Student Corps Volleyball association”. In the First few weeks of its existence, the interest was so big that there were two teams that could start in the NeVoBo (Dutch Volleyball Federation) competition. On the 23rd of February 1959 the first official statutes were brought out and the name “Hajraa” is a fact

E.S.C.V.V. Hajraa
Where the name Hajraa comes from remains a mystery for many people. In the early years during a competition game there was a very loud and enthusiastic supporter. His encouragements drew lots of people’s attention. The Hungarian words phonetically Huj Huj Hajraa made such a big impression on the members, that from that point they called their association E.S.C.V.V. Hajraa. By the way, the Hungarian sounds were produced by the father of Iwan Garay who would later become a trainer of Hajraa. In the upcoming years, Hajraa growth continues and of course made some sportive successes. European accomplishments
The first men’s team of Hajraa has also represented The Netherlands multiple times at the European Student Championships. Highlights are a third place in 2002 at the championship of Athens and a second place in Malibor in 2003. In 2006 Eindhoven even placed first at the European Student Championship with both the men’s and women’s teams! In 2011 another second place was achieved in Warschau.

Hajraa Outdoor

E.S.V.V. Hajraa
Towards the end of the sixties of the last century a discussion arises within Hajraa whether or not to separate from the E.S.C. One of the problems is that the abscence of Hajraa at the Corps could mean a strong backfall for the Corps. The association finally goes its own way and parts from the E.S.C. When Hajraa opens in 1973 for non-members of the Corps, the separation is a fact. The bond with the Corps is still to be seen in the logo of Hajraa. The amount of teams increased well over the years. In the summer of 1982 Hajraa even had to refuse people to become a member of Hajraa. During the ’88-’89 season for the first time in the history of Hajraa a women’s team could play in the competition. Since 1991 not only academic students, but also higher professional education students can obtain a sports card, increasing the number of potential members.

Competition
Momenteel komen er 8 Hajraa herenteams en 9 damesteams uit in de competitie. Dames 1 en heren 1 spelen beide 2de divisie.
